Equity management is the cap table plus everything that moves it: option pools and grants, vesting schedules, convertibles waiting to convert, phantom plans that don't touch the share count but still represent a liability, and the people who need to see their part of it. Aportia handles all of it in one project, and for now it is free — no credit card, no per-seat pricing, no limit on stakeholders.

Most startups end up with equity in four or five different forms before their Series A. Keeping them in one system matters because they interact: the pool dilutes the founders, the SAFE converts on the pool-inclusive number, the phantom plan pays out of the exit. Aportia models them together so the fully diluted view is actually fully diluted.
Each grant carries its own schedule — start date, cliff, duration, frequency and acceleration on change of control. Vested and unvested amounts are calculated from today's date every time you open the project, so there is no monthly update to forget. When someone leaves, the leaver rules decide what happens to the unvested part, and the change is recorded in the audit trail.
Shareholders can be invited to a read-only portal that shows their own position: their shares, their percentage and the value of their stake at the current valuation. You choose per project whether they also see the full cap table or only their own line. It ends the cycle of "can you send me my numbers?" emails.
Cofounders can edit; your lawyer or accountant can be given scoped access; an investor can be read-only. Every change carries the name of who made it. Because Aportia doesn't charge per seat, there is no incentive to share one login around the team — which is how audit trails stop meaning anything.
The share register, share certificates, the equity report and the audit trail are generated from the same data as the cap table and can be exported to PDF. Documents can be uploaded and kept with the project, and signature requests can be sent from the app, so the paper trail lives next to the transactions it refers to.
For teams still building toward a split, a project can run in dynamic mode: contributions are tracked and weighted, and ownership follows the work until you freeze it. Once frozen it is a normal cap table and every feature above applies. It's an option, not the default.

A cap table records who owns what. Equity management covers everything that changes it — grants, vesting, conversions, phantom plans — and the people who need access. In practice you want both in one tool.
